A CELEBRATION CONCERT
Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation and Sukhumo Foundation in collaboration with B. Grimm & Co. R.O.P. and Thai Fuji Xerox Co.,Ltd. supported by Air France and Sekai Kyuseikyo Thai Headquaters, proudly present “A Celebration Concert” performed by Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO) conducted by Hikotaro Yazaki with soloist Jamorn Supapol - Piano, on Thursday 4th November, 2004 at 8 pm, Thailand Cultural Centre, Main Hall
The concert features great work from
Berlioz’s “Overture Beatrice and Benedict”,
Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 2 in f minor, Op. 21”, and
Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet – excerpts from Suites 1 and 2”
A well renowned guest conductor, Hikotaro Yazaki has had experiences in conducting top orchestras in Japan, France and Europe such as Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra de la Suisse Roam, Orchestra de Lyon, Orchestra des Concerts Lamoureux, Royal Phiharmonic and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He is the Principal Conductor and Music Adviser of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and since 2002 the Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo City Philharminic Orchestra.
Mr. Yazaki returns once again as Principal Conductor to conduct the BSO in “A Celebration Concert”, Concert to commemorate His Majesty the King's 77 th Birthday Anniversary.

Born in Tokyo in 1947, Hikotaro Yazaki first studied mathematics at Tokyo’s Sophia University before graduating from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music as a conductor. For two years from 1970, he was Assistant Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra under its Music Director, Seiji Ozawa. In 1972 he led a concert tour to Switzerland as conductor of the Tokyo Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Yazaki then furthered his studies with some of the great conducting teachers in Europe – Franco Ferrara, Sergiu Celebidache, Zdenek Kosler, Pierre Dervaux and Hans Swarowsky, whose students included Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta. He was a prize-winner at the first John Player International Conductors Competition in 1974, at the Besancon Competition in 1975, and at the Rassengna Internazionale “Gino Marinuzzi” in 1996.
Since then, he has held a number of titled positions with international orchestras, including Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra from 1979-1988, Principal Guest Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra from 1986-1988, Principal Guest Conductor of the Hofer Symphony Orchestra in Germany between 1986 and 1989, and subsequently Music Director and Principal Conductor of the same Orchestra from 1989 until 1996.
Since 1994, Hikotaro Yazaki has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Toulouse. In 2002 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and since 2003 he has been Principal Conductor and Music Advisor of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.

Among the many European orchestras with which Mr. Yazaki has been associated as a regular guest conductor are London's Royal Philharmonic, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Paris Opera Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Suisse Romande, several BBC Orchestra, the Orchestra Colonne in Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, Lyon Orchestra, Avignon Orchestra, Orchestra of the Capitole Toulouse, Monte Carlo Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera Wallonie. For his ongoing commitment to the promotion of French music and culture, Hikotaro Yazaki was awarded the Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France in 2001. |

Pianist Jamorn Supapol received his Bachelor of Music from Manhattan School of Music, New York, and his Master’s Degree and Graduate performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, Maryland, U.S.A. His piano teachers include Suda Banomyong and Dusdi Banomyong-Buntasnakul, Barbara Hesse-Bukowska, Ann Schein, Piyabhand Sanitwongse, and Nina Svetlanova.
Jamorn has performed as soloist with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. He regularly gives solo recitals and enjoys playing in chamber and vocal concerts. Currently Jamorn is Head of the Piano Department at the Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University. He also teaches part-time at AMA Studio and Yamaha Music School (Chanvinit – Rama 3).
This past September Jamorn has been granted partial scholarship by Fund for Classical Music Promotion under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana to participate in master – class given by Jean – Francois Antonioli in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Jamorn last appeared with the BSO on 23 June 2000 as soloist in Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor under the direction of Rear Admiral Veeraphan Vawklang.
