จากความสำเร็จของนิทรรศการเดือนแห่งภาพถ่ายครั้งที่ผ่านมา Mois de la Photo หรือนิทรรศการเดือนแห่งภาพถ่ายครั้งที่ ๓ จะมีขึ้นอีกครั้งอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ กว่าเดิม เพื่อเป็นอีกหนึ่งสีสันโดดเด่นให้กับงานเทศกาลวัฒนธรรมฝรั่งเศส
La Fête 2006

นิทรรศการนี้มีต้นกำเนิดมาจากนิทรรศการที่จัดขึ้นเมื่อปี ๑๙๘๐ โดยหอศิลป์ ภาพถ่ายแห่งชาติ Maison de la Photographie ณ กรุงปารีสด้วยวัตถุประสงค์
ที่จะนำเสนอผลงานของศิลปินด้วยสื่อภาพถ่ายซึ่งแนวคิดในการจัดนิทรรศการ ดังกล่าวก็ได้แพร่หลายออกมาเป็นอีก หนึ่งงานนิทรรศการวัฒนธรรมในระดับ นานาชาติเช่นเดียวกันกับที่กรุงเทพ หลังจากที่ผู้ชมไทยที่รักศิลปะการถ่าย
ภาพ ต่างให้ความสนใจนิทรรศการนี้อย่างแพร่หลาย โปรแกรม ในปี ๒๕๔๙ นี้ จึงเกิดขึ้นอีกครั้งอย่างยิ่งใหญ่กว่าเดิม โดยจะจัดแสดงตามหอศิลป์ที่สำคัญ ต่างๆ ในกรุงเทพ

นิทรรศการหลักในครั้งนี้คือนิทรรศการในชื่อว่า Théâtre de la Mode จะมีขึ้น ณ หอศิลป์ สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิต์ซึ่งจะเป็นนิทรรศการภาพ ถ่ายผลงานที่คัด เลือกจากคลังสะสม ของกองทุนเพื่องานศิลปะร่วมสมัยแห่งชาติฝรั่งเศส
( FNAC- French National Fonds of Contemporary Art) ที่เลือกสรรโดย ภัณฑารักษ์ชาวฝรั่งเศส Agnés de Gouvion-Saint-Cyr โดยเป็นผลงานของ ศิลปินช่างภาพแฟชั่นชื่อดัง ในระดับนานาชาติ อาทิ Franck Perrin, Sarah Moon, Deborah Turbeville, Gérard Uferas, Françoise Huguier ในส่วน การผลงานสร้างสรรค์ฝั่งศิลปินไทยศิลปินช่างภาพแฟชั่นในระดับแนวหน้าของ เมืองไทยจะร่วมแสดงงานชิ้นเอกของพวกเขา โดยจะนำเสนอนิทรรศการ ณ แกลเลอรี่ ๑๐๐ ต้นสน เพื่อให้เป็นไปตามจุดประสงค์ที่ต้องการ ให้เข้าถึงกลุ่ม คนในทุกพื้นที่ของกรุงเทพได้อย่างครอบคลุมมากที่สุด

งานนิทรรศการครั้งนี้จึงประกอบด้วย นิทรรศการตามหอศิลป์และพื้นที่ ทาง ศิลปะที่แตกต่างกันไป อาทิ Pascal Monteil จะจัดแสดงผลงานที่ หอศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ โดยเป็นผลงานในโอกาสเมื่อเขามา พำนักในโครงการ Artist in residence ที่ ซิเต เดอ สยาม เมื่อปี ๒๕๔๗ ในส่วนของ นิทรรศการ อื่นๆที่น่าสนใจนั้นจะจัดแสดง ตามพื้นที่ศิลปะอื่นๆที่มีชื่อเสียงอาทิ หอศิลป วิทยนิทรรศน์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เอช แกลเลอรี่และนำทองแกลเลอรี่

และเพื่อให้นิทรรศการครั้งนี้เข้าถึงผู้ชมกลุ่มใหญ่ให้มากขึ้นไปอีก มานิต ศรีวา นิชภูมิ ศิลปินภาพถ่ายแนวเสียดสีสังคมจะนำเสนอนิทรรศการภาพถ่าย Pink Man อันเลื่องชื่อในรูปแบบ ที่แตกต่างออกไป โดยจะเป็นการนำภาพถ่ายมาใส่ ในตู้ไฟโฆษณาขนาดใหญ่ของบริษัท JC DECAUX และนำมาจัดแสดง ณ สถานีรถไฟฟ้า BTS ที่สยามสแควร์ สำหรับนิทรรศการ ในส่วนสุดท้ายนั้นก็จะ เป็นส่วนที่เข้าถึงชาวเมืองหลวงให้มากขึ้น โดยจะเป็นการแสดงงาน นิทรรศการตามบาร์ และร้านอาหารต่างๆกว่าสิบแห่งในถนนพระอาทิตย์ย่าน วัฒนธรรมที่มี สีสันในกรุงเทพซึ่งบาร์และร้านอาหารเหล่านี้จะเป็นผู้คัดสรรผล งานศิลปินเอง

Thanks to the success of its previous editions, the third biennale of the Month of Photography in Bangkok will be enlarged on the occasion of La Fête 2006 .

Initially launched by the ‘Maison de la Photographie’ of Paris in 1980 , this French event has since become an international happening.Because of a growing demand on behalf of the Thai public, this year’s expositions have grown in number and will take place at major venues all around Bangkok. The main event, ‘The Theater of Fashion’ will take place at the prestigious Queen’s Gallery.

Originating at France’s National Fund of Contemporary Art (FNAC), the exhibition, whose curator is Agnés de Gouvion Saint-Cyr, will present approximately one hundred photographic works from internationally renowned fashion photographers such as Franck Perrin, Sarah Moon, Deborah Turbeville (photograph below), Gérard Uferas, Françoise Huguier…

The 100 Tonson Gallery will mirror the French exhibition, exhibiting the work of some of Thailand’s best fashion photographers.

In order to present the different faces of photographic art and approach it from every point of view, this third edition of the Month of Photography in Bangkok will include many other exhibitions. Pascal Monteil will expose his works created during his stay at the Cité Siam in 2004 at the Bangkok University Gallery. Exhibitions will also be held at the Chulalongkorn Art Center, H Gallery and in the Numthong Gallery.

In order to bring this event to the largest audience possible, the ironic and original Thai photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom will present his exhibition ‘Travels of the Man in Rose’ in JCDecaux illuminated stands installed at the Siam BTS station. An urban festival of photography will also be organized along the very animated Phra Athit Road with approximately ten restaurants-bars welcoming photographers they have chosen for this occasion.

As a true festival within the festival, this edition of the Month of Photography in Bangkok promises to be impressive, not only through its ambitious programme, but also by the breadth of its themes and geographic area. We can thus say that it has gained the symbolic status as the “little Asiatic sister” of the revered Month of Photography in Paris.
